Alejandro Szabo

STUDIES:
 
Born in Buenos Aires he began studying bandoneon at the age of 10, hearing with his father performances in the typical cafés of Buenos Aires, mainly Don Osvaldo Pugliese orchestra. His teachers were Arturo Penón, Daniel Binelli, Rodolfo Mederos, Alejandro Prevignano, all bandoneonists of the Orchestra Osvaldo Pugliese. He studied in the "School of Popular Music of Avellaneda", and made studies of harmony and composition by Juan Carlos Cirigliano at the SADAIC (Argentina). He also took private lessons with the bandoneonist Julio Pane and, in 2001, in classical and contemporary music with the maestro Alejandro Barletta.
 
CAREER:
 
During his years of study he integrated several formations which marked his expressive and powerful style. He presented himself in the Buenos Aires circuit and in the whole Argentina with "Tracción Tanguera", "Raul Parentella Tango", "Los cosos de al lao", "Subte A", "Argentango" (accompanying the singer Ricardo "Chiqui" Pereyra and others) and "Hora Cero",with whom he recorded the album "Libertango" (CP 9013).
 
 

In 1995 he was invited by the saxophonist Jorge Retamoza to join his quintet "Tango XXX", with whom he collaborates for several years. This project involved into the recording of two albums: 
"Violentango" (PAI 3018) and "Policial Argentino" (PAI 3032); 
they also recorded several songs for the TV channel "Solo Tango" in Argentina.
In December 2001 he moved to Spain. There he developed an intense activity that led him to participate in the tours of "Jorge Retamoza and Tango XXX", 2002 and 2003. He participated as a guest in many festivals and events, among which should be highlighted "Cidade Vella Concerto" organized by the city of A Coruña, "Cosquín Festival in Cadiz" at the Teatro Manuel de Falla, Alejandro Szabo
I Trobada Jove Barcelona Tango in “L'Espai Jove Boca Nord", I Festival “Sons de Lua (Cosquin in Galicia)" in Vilagarcia de Arousa.
In 2010 he participates in the "Karolis Biveinis Film Ensemble", a project of film music by the composer and pianist Karolis Biveinis.
 
In mid-2010 with Diego Zecharies, principal bassist of the Symphony Orchestra of Galicia, he forms the duo "DeContraBando". This project has been presented at numerous festivals and performances, receiving acceptance and praise from the public and press. It was important the participation in the IX Festival Bass "Ludwig Streicher" on July 11, 2011, in the auditorium of the School of Advanced Musical Studies in Santiago de Compostela, and the presentation in the "Mozart Festival" A Coruña 2011 May 13, 2011 in the Casa de los Peces of A Coruña and, the 21th of the same month, in the House of Culture of Boiro. He participated twice as solo bandoneon by the "Banda Municipal de Santiago de Compostela" directed by Xosé Carlos Serans, in 2011 and 2013. These projects included "Educational Concerts" in the Auditorium of Galicia, in the Mozart room and presentations in the weekly concert that the band offered in the Theater of  Santiago de Compostela.
 
During the years 2012 and 2013 he was a member of the typical orchestra "El Cachivache" with which he made European tours playing in the most prestigious milongas and Tango Festivals in Europe (France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Croatia, Slovenia, the Netherlands, etc.). He also participated in the recording of the third CD of this formation "Que nos quiten lo bailado".
 
 
In 2012 and 2014 he performed with a group formed by the prestigious and renowned violinist Anahi Carfi (first solo violinist in the orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan until 2003) in the "Classical Music Festival Villa de Llutxent" (Valencia) and others theaters, playing works by the master Astor Piazzolla.
In September 2013 he forms the typical Orchestra "LA IDEAL" in Porto (Portugal) alongside renowned musicians. With this group he is presented in prestigious festivals and international events 
throughout Europe's Argentine tango to the present. From 2015 member of the Tango Harmony Budapest Argentine-Hungarian Tango Orchestra.
