Adrian Placenti

 

Adrien Placenti is a composer, pianist and conductor. He is also Investigator and Academic of the Academia Porteña del Lunfardo in Buenos Aires.

Having been born in Buenos Aires, he was living in a tango atmosphere and he has studied music and piano since childhood. Sebastián Piana was his first tango teacher.

Adrian Placenti Graduated in Music (U.C.A., composition) and Piano professor in IUNA, he received a scholarship by the “Instituo Italiano de Cultura” to study composition with Giacomo Manzoni and Bianchinni, he studied Orchestral Conducting with Mario Benzecry, and he studied piano tango with Nicolás Ledesma and Oscar De Elía..

 

He is pianist and composer but his production includes chamber music, orchestral music and jingles as well.

He won different composition awards: his Piano Sonata “El loco” won an “Honourable Mention”; in a competition organized by “Fundación Omega” he was finalist with his sextet “La Venise de L´Ouest”, and the music work was performed for the first time by Gerardo Gandini´s conducting; he won the 1st Prize in Instrumental Composition in the “XVII Certamen Hugo del Carril” organized by the Buenos Aires Government with “Ayer y Hoy” tango.

He participated in the “Les Allumnès” International Festival, in Nantes, France.

He taught in the “Universidad de Buenos Aires” and “Universidad Católica Argentina” and at the moment he is a conducting director of two children orchestras: at the “Escuela de Coro y Orquesta Athos Palma” and at “Escuela de Música Nº. 12 D.E. 19” in Buenos Aires.

 

Currently he plays music in many places in Buenos Aires such us “La Esquina Homero Manzi”, “36 billares”, “Centro Cultural Recoleta”, among others, and he is the official pianist in “La Poesía”, a legendary bar placed in San Telmo neighborhood.

He is also a piano accompanist at “Escuela de Danza Nº2”.  He participates at the radio program “Los notables” and he is an editor of “Chacabuco Cultural” publication.

In 2012 it was edited his CD called “Ayer y Hoy, mis tangos” supported by the “Fondo Metropolitano de las Artes,” with music from his authoring.

In 2013 he organized a cultural cycle called “De músicos, poetas y locos todos tenemos un poco”, in the “Academia Porteña del Lunfardo” where many guests as Atilio Stampone, Raúl Garello, Juan Carlos Saravia and other very important argentine musicians have participated.

In 2014, he was named Academic of number of the Academia Porteña del Lunfardo.

He traveled to the USA in 2014 and in 2016 giving concerts and classes at the Universities of Graceland, Iowa, and Baker, Kansas and in New York. Both trips were declared "Of High Artistic and Cultural Interest" by the Argentine Chancellery.

In 2015 was edited the Cd "Tangos in USA" recorded in the tour with the violinist Mariana Cañardo.

Since 2015 he continues to write the column "De tango y pentagramas" in the specialized magazine "La Porteña Tango".

In 2016 it was edited the Cd "Tango Suite puertas abiertas" with his sextet.

In 2016, at a public session at Academia Porteña del Lunfardo, he gave a lecture entitled "Contribution to the understanding of tango and its origins, academic musicians"

He had played in the "Festival of Tango in Buenos Aires" in 2016 and 2017.

As a researcher in 2017, at the Congreso Latinoamericano and Unasur, U.N.A., gave the presentation: "Professional musicians with academic training in the Tango de la Guardia Vieja: two Italian cases".

 

In 2018 he participated as an organizer and musician offering concerts in the Festival of Tango of Boedo.
